60-Minute Youth Soccer Practice Plan
One hour is enough time to build a clear progression without losing focus. Keep the activity family connected: explore the skill, repeat it, add a choice, and play.
The four-block hour
01
8 minutes: welcome and move
Use a ball-based game that players can join as they arrive.
02
12 minutes: skill repetition
Focus on one technical action and one memorable cue.
03
15 minutes: decision game
Add pressure, direction, or a second target.
04
25 minutes: small-sided play
Use enough fields to avoid substitutes and keep coaching brief.
Common mistakes
- Treating the schedule as more important than engagement
- Building four unrelated activities
- Using long water breaks
- Saving too little time for play
Coach’s checklist
- Activity progression
- One field adjustment
- One coaching cue
- One question for players
- At least 20 minutes of play
Questions new coaches ask
How many water breaks fit in one hour?
Use brief breaks based on age and weather, and follow league heat guidance. Reset equipment while players drink.
Can I reuse this template weekly?
Yes. Consistent structure helps players learn routines while the skill and game problem change.
