U10 Soccer Practice Plan

U10 players are ready to connect individual technique to teammates and opponents. Ask them to scan before receiving, support at an angle, and decide whether to dribble or pass.

A 60-minute U10 session

01

8 minutes: gates challenge

Players dribble through gates, then progress to partner passing with movement after every pass.

02

12 minutes: receive and turn

Use groups of three. Players check a shoulder, receive across the body, and play forward.

03

15 minutes: 2v1 to goal

The ball carrier commits the defender while the teammate creates a clear passing angle.

04

25 minutes: 4v4 end zones

Score by receiving in an end zone. The rule encourages width, forward passing, and timed movement.

Common mistakes

  • Passing without movement
  • Telling the ball carrier exactly what to do
  • Making the field too crowded
  • Using touch limits before players recognize the problem

Coach’s checklist

  • Balls for pairs
  • Passing gates
  • Two small fields
  • Three pinnie colors
  • One coaching question

Questions new coaches ask

Should U10 practices include tactics?

Teach simple principles such as width, support, pressure, and transition through games rather than long formation lectures.

How do I encourage passing without banning dribbling?

Use numerical advantages, targets, and scoring choices. Praise the decision that fits the picture.

Ready for the field?
