U12 Soccer Practice Plan

U12 players benefit from technical repetition that quickly gains pressure and direction. Connect each activity to a game problem and include transitions so players act after possession changes.

A 75-minute U12 session

01

10 minutes: dynamic ball activation

Use pairs and moving gates. Include scanning, communication, and first touch into the next action.

02

15 minutes: first-touch boxes

Receive away from a passive defender, then increase pressure and require a forward action.

03

20 minutes: 3v2 transition

Attackers use width and speed; defenders counter immediately when they win the ball.

04

30 minutes: 5v5 or 6v6

Play directionally with realistic restarts. Use brief coaching windows between rounds.

Common mistakes

  • Keeping technical work unopposed too long
  • Adding touch limits without a reason
  • Ignoring transition after losing the ball
  • Stopping every tactical error

Coach’s checklist

  • Two directional goals
  • Three pinnie colors
  • Transition supply of balls
  • Clear field channels
  • Two observation points
